Creation Myths Comparison

Introduction -- Creation myths form the foundation of civilization. Many have been passed down through oral tradition, and shaped the cultures of their origin. You will read through a set of myths and compare and contrast these in a class discussion.

Process:

Questions to Consider:

1. How might these creation stories impact the development of their culture of origin?

2. Discuss the ways in which Greek creation myths functioned as didactic works (meaning they teach a lesson)

3. How is the motif of imposing order to chaos present in the Genesis creation story?

4. What similarities can you find between the Native American creation stories and the other creation stories/myths from other cultures (Greek, Judeo-Christian, or something else that you have read)?
